How long does it take to cook the quinoa?

Cooking quinoa typically takes 15-20 minutes. The process involves rinsing the quinoa, combining it with water or broth in a saucepan, bringing it to a boil, then reducing the heat to a simmer and covering it. It’s done when the liquid is absorbed, and the quinoa is fluffy. Cooking time may vary slightly depending on the specific type and brand of quinoa used.

Is it okay to prepare this Mediterranean quinoa salad in advance?

Preparing this Mediterranean quinoa salad in advance is absolutely fine, and it can be quite convenient. You can chop and assemble most of the salad ingredients ahead of time, storing them separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. However, it’s best to add the dressing and garnish (like sliced almonds) just before serving to maintain freshness and prevent the salad from becoming soggy.

How do I store leftovers?

The name “borekitas” is thought to come from the Turkish word “börek”, which means “pie”. Borekas are believed to have originated in Asia, and were brought to the Middle East by Sephardic Jews during the 15th century. They quickly became popular throughout the region, and today there are many different variations of borekas, each with its own unique flavor.

Can I use regular onions instead of purple onions?

While purple onions have a milder flavor and add a colorful contrast, regular onions will still provide a pleasant oniony taste. You may want to finely chop regular onions to match the texture of purple onions, and the flavor difference should be subtle, allowing you to enjoy the salad with a slightly different twist.
