FAQ
What wine goes with an upside down onion tart?
When it comes to pairing wine with an upside down onion tart, you’ll want to consider the flavors and textures of the dish. The combination of sweet caramelized onions, savory cheese, and buttery pastry requires a wine that can complement these elements without overpowering them. Here are a few wine options that pair well with a vegan caramelized onion tart:
Chardonnay: A medium to full-bodied Chardonnay with a touch of oak can be an excellent choice. The wine’s buttery and creamy notes can harmonize with the richness of the tart while balancing the sweetness of the onions.
Sauvignon Blanc: If you prefer a white wine with more acidity and freshness, a Sauvignon Blanc can be a good match. Its crisp and citrusy flavors can cut through the richness of the tart and provide a refreshing contrast.
Pinot Noir: For red wine lovers, a light to medium-bodied Pinot Noir can be a great option. Its red fruit flavors and soft tannins can complement the caramelized onions without overpowering the delicate flavors of the tart.
Rosé: A dry or off-dry rosé wine can also pair nicely with an onion tart. Its fruity and floral notes can provide a lively and refreshing accompaniment to the sweet and savory flavors of the dish.
Which cheese pairs well with vegan caramelized onion tart?
Gruyere: Gruyere cheese is a classic choice for onion tart. It has a nutty and slightly sweet flavor that pairs beautifully with the caramelized onions. The cheese melts well and adds a creamy and rich element to the tart.
Fontina: Fontina cheese is another excellent option. It has a mild and buttery taste, which complements the sweetness of the onions without overpowering them. Fontina melts smoothly, contributing to the luscious texture of the tart.
Goat Cheese: Goat cheese offers a tangy and creamy flavor that adds a delightful contrast to the sweetness of the onions. Its slightly acidic notes cut through the richness of the tart and create a harmonious balance of flavors.
Blue Cheese: If you enjoy bold and intense flavors, blue cheese can be a great choice for an onion tart. The sharp and pungent taste of blue cheese adds a distinctive character to the dish. It pairs particularly well with caramelized onions, creating a complex and flavorful combination.
I found these to be very bland.
Hey Cathy,
Sorry to hear that!
We suggest sprinkling some salt on the onions, and you can also add more of the balsamic glaze.
Another suggestion would be sprinkling grated parmesan.
Please let us know what you think 🙂
Could you add the cheese to the onion after you flip it over and before adding the pastry??
Hey Debbie,
You can actually lay the cheese as a first layer on the parchment paper and then top with the seasoned onions and pastry.
Hope this helps 🙂
